End of the season recap

I have been really lazy lately, so I haven't had a chance to sum up our past three tournaments, so I figured I would talk about them all shortly in this recap.

The first tournament was the Chicago Invite which happened in mid-march. Eastern had four games on Saturday and won each one of them. The Hellfish were tearing it up all day long and had many up-wind points. When the day was all over the Hellfish did not have a team that was within two points of them. After a great day on Saturday the Hellfish woke with bad news that the tournament was canceled on Sunday.

The next tournament we attended was the Hope invite which happened the week before sectionals. The Hellfish took their pool by beating Calvin, GVSU, and Kuyper college. Then in the first round of the championship bracket the wind decided to go crazy. Hope won the flip and that ended up being the difference in the game. With no up-wind points between either team the Hellfish really only had themselves to blame for not capitalizing at all. The final score was 9-8. The last game of the day was against Western. Eastern was still disappointed from the loss against Hope and they let it affect them, they started this game down 5-1. When it was all said and done Eastern lost on the final point with a score of 12-11.

The last tournament of the year was sectionals. Eastern started the tournament against Michigan State. After starting the game with a lot of intensity and tying the game 3-3, State decided to go on a run and take half 7-3. Eastern decided this game wasn't that important to accomplish their goals so they let some of the new guys get some sectionals experience. The next game was against a very good Michigan-B team. Michigan-B ended up have a few up-wind breaks and Eastern could not get any. The final score was 13-8. Eastern ended up winning their next game against Central pretty smoothly 13-7. The last game of the day was against Calvin. Eastern opened the game up 4-1 but Calvin would battle back. When it was all said and done Calvin won 12-10. Eastern started Sunday morning playing K-zoo B in a game that was much needed for the Hellfish to move on for a chance to go to regionals. Eastern won this game 15-4. In the first game in the 4th place bracket the Hellfish were matched up against Western. In one of the most intense games I have ever played in the hellfish tried to battle back to late. After being down 10-5 the soft cap was blown. The Hellfish ended up rallying back but still lost with a final score of 12-10.

It wasn't the end that we all had imagined, but I believe the future team will use this season as ammunition for the future years. Everyone on the team knows how good we can be if we play to our potential. This will be one of the main goals for this team for next year. I look forward to what the Hellfish have in store for the future. I strongly believe that next years team will be by far the best that Eastern has ever had. And with the program that has been set in place I feel that every year will be stronger than the previous year. I am proud to say I am and always will be a hellfish.

Thanks for all the memories and great times 2006-2010 Hellfish.

Your old captain and great friend
